This article has some age on it but it is even more relevant because we now have some hindsight on how it actually went.

I like that..."40 years in retail politics". The author thinks this is wonderful stuff, great for the Clintons. I couldn't have said it better myself. Retail sales of what? Of access. Political access...of what they can do for you, their contributor, when they get elected. The entire political system has been replaced by "Retail sales of access and, to make sure this is clear, favors". That's what it is all about. It's a dance and the Clintons are the hosts. All three of them. Yes. $75,000 apiece to hear Chelsey Clinton talk for an hour. $200,000 for Hillary for 1 hour. Yes. Retail sales of access and favors.
Hillary has three charitable foundations. What is the bet that she has funneled tens of millions of dollars illegally from them into her political action efforts and that the accounting is non-transparent, which is to say that it is forever hidden away, destroyed by some accident or oversight or that she just considered it private and none of our business...that she broke the law. In speculation, would it surprise you?
TV News finds out that laws have been broken and puts pressure on the Government to do something about it, pressure on officials to go the extra mile and do their jobs. Remember Watergate? That is the way it worked then. But the TV News has been compromised by managers who won't allow their investigative reporters to follow these stories to their ends anymore. TV News managers have owners as bosses and this must be placed at their feet. Owners are in the backgrounds calling the shots. TV News is no longer reliable and except for the new news stations that are fighting this phenomenon, and being attacked by liberals for it, the politicians find themselves without public oversight. The cat is away, the country's leadership has been for sale for years. My estimate is for 15 or 20 years. "Clinton's" time. That is what happened to the economy. All of those worthless mortgages sold to sub-prime, meaning "unlikely to perform", borrowers and politicians paid to turn their heads and deny the inevitable crash, while busy selling access and favors for contributions for re-election and lining their pockets.
I am not sure how to fix all of this, but building strong, credible, and persistent TV Media is a "must". Another "must" is electing responsible, moral, intelligent political leaders who are more interested in the country's future than getting re-elected and lining their own pockets. In choosing our political leaders, insisting on moral character and an unblemished record is NOT a superflous, religiously based discrimination that we should throw to the winds. A record that shows an affinity to telling the truth and facing up to responsibility in one's purpose in life is absolutely necessary for a politician. Especially for a politician. Access and favors should not be for sale by a politician! This is poison to our political system!
To me, the Clintons are exactly what this country does not need. Their history is full of doubtful enterprises covered by thin excuses and reads like a badly written novel. What the heck are we doing allowing our country to get itself into a situation where we appear about to elect this person whose integrity has been called into question in so many instances it confounds the imagination why they weren't cast aside long ago? Their apparent success is a symptom of the diseased condition of our political system. From where I stand, it doesn't look good.
